The extent of this directory shows that organic food is readily available in most areas of South East Queensland. It is hoped that this site will make organic food and products more accessible to more people, providing numerous benefits for our environmental and health. It is now commonly accepted that we must live from products produced in our bioregion to limit the environmental costs of transport, maintain diversity of industry and biodiversity, and to remain bioregionally self-sufficient. It is also important for our health and wellbeing that we eat food that originates from our local bioregion in order to maintain biological rhythms and connections. Fresh, organic food produced in our local bioregion will be in season at the correct time for our body's nutritional needs.
Organic food production provides answers to many of the problems associated with commercial food production. As the organic food industry gains momentum, environmental degradation from farming can be slowed and reversed. It is up to each individual consumer to make the choice to buy organic food. For every person who makes this choice, economies of scale are created, increased investment, and increased research and development. The result is cheaper and better organic food locally grown. In this case, the individual consumer really can make a difference to the local organic industry. This site aims to support you in your commitment to this process.
